The Cafe Racer Dreams family continues to grow with the #CRD129, a 1977 BMW R100RS created as a 50th birthday present for its owner. As with previous customisation projects, there is a personal history behind the CRD129 and in this case there are details that give an added touch of emotion such as the inscription “in memoriam” in the handwriting of the owner’s father on the yoke. There is also 50th birthday image within the BMW logo on the gas tank, painted in matching green. These are little touches that make this a particularly special machine, especially for its owner which is exactly what they were looking for to create something unique. The technical aspects of this customisation include the yoke in top-quality machined aluminium and with a new design to incorporate a Motogadget Mini Pro instrument. Top of the line accessories have replaced some of the original parts, such as the Highsider mirrors, with a striking position under the handlebars, the LSL brake fluid reservoir and the controls and switches at the ends of the bars also from Motogadget. The Renthal handlebars are reversed to give the front end a much lower position.

The suspension is a particular feature of #CRD129 with Suzuki GSX-R 1000 forks up front with a set of 320 mm disc brakes and radial callipers. The minimalist backend is fitted with Öhlins Black Line shock absorbers that, as with the forks, are fully adjustable to meet the riding taste of the owner while the Tarozzi pegs are positioned to sit the rider further forward. CRD craftsmanship is evident throughout, with tubular struts for the plateholder housing the cables for a clean, functional look. This is also the case for the front headlight with a built-in LED that recalls the masks from the famous Netflix series Squid Game.

The two cylinder boxer motor, characteristic of all ‘R’ series BMWs was restored, powder coated and fitted with Trumpet exhausts and K&N air filters, a combination that always provides optimum performance. The carburettors received a ceramic treatment, this time also including the flanges on the cylinders for a more complete even look. Finally, and as no detail is left to chance, the gas tank was painted in the same green as the classic Land Rover, a vehicle also belonging to the owner. The hand-crafted solo seat, finished in 4 mm buffalo hide, is particularly striking as the only element that rises above the chassis in the rear. The CRD129 combines a striking aesthetic, well-fitted, top-quality parts and finish in addition to its outstanding performance.
